Once a posh gem known as The Hampshire House Hotel before becoming The Burnsley, this property has a star-studded history that began with none other than co-investors Ella Fitzgerald and Kirk Douglas. When it was constructed in 1963 it was Denver's tallest apartment building before being quickly converted into a first-rate jazz club and upscale hotel known to draw a loyal following. Smooth and mellow tunes would spill out of the lobby bar every Thursday through Saturday night while couples filled cozy dark wood tables to enjoy a candlelit dinner and the refined experience that would come to define an era.
RedPeak purchased the property in December of 2012 from owner Joy Burns, after many years of active pursuit. “This was her baby,” chief operating officer Mark Windhager said of the prominent businesswoman and benefactor. “She loved this place.” After a difficult decision to part with what was her favorite project and RedPeak’s painstakingly thoughtful renovations, she still very much does.
Under RedPeak management, the 1000 Grant The Burnsley property has received multiple awards including the ENR Mountain States 2014 Best Projects Renovation/Restoration, the Apartment Association of Metro Denver Tribute Award for Best Renovated Clubhouse, and the Apartment Association of Metro Denver Tribute Award for Best Renovated Community. It has become a high-rise village full of character and community where residents connect over potluck dinners and holiday parties in a building that is not only modern and accessible, but also a masterpiece within the local Denver history.
